The All Sorts Cake
I made another dummy cake for presentation purposes. I am embarking on a publicity drive of sorts and I feel that whenever I talk about being a cake artist/cake decorator/baker, it always helps to have a decorated cake there and then so people can see what I can do with fondant. I'm very happy with how this cake turned out. Each tier contrasts in terms of design but the colours hold it all together. This cake design is my kiddie friendly one. I am hoping to finish my grown up two tier cake dummy very soon. I'm very excited by that one because it involves painting a cake, something which I've been wanting to try for a while! Stay tuned :)

The Handbag and Shoe Cake
The customer was very happy with their cake! I was asked to make a pink and girlie cake with a shoe and handbag cake topper. I think the overall effect is undoubtedly pink and girlie! The edible silver balls really finish the look. I loved making the ruffles for the handbag because the effect is pretty fantastic once you are done. To think the ruffles look so delicate when in fact they have hardened as they are made from gumpaste. The cake itself is chocolate with vanilla buttercream (colored pink as an added surprise).

Cupcake Bouquets (Again)
I've made some changes to my cupcake bouquets and this time used a real terracotta pot. Cupcakes can be quite heavy and I found the lovely tin vase I used previously needed to be weighed down and I was afraid of the bouquets toppling over during transport! I'm looking forward to making these in colours other than white, and making pink, purple, red and even two toned cupcake bouquets.
A Nautical Theme
As they say, sometimes less is more and that certainly is the case with the latest cake I made for the past weekend for a boy who turned 5. I made the design as simple as possible and used a limited colour palette and the recipient and his parents were very pleased with the resulting cake! The cakes are very small- 6" and 4" and made with a moist and delicious vanilla cake and velvety smooth vanilla buttercream. I have also been wanting to make paper buntings and I finally had a chance to decorate a cake with them. I think the overall effect is pretty good :)

Thomas the Tank Engine
Cupcake Bouquets
I had been wanting to create some cupcake bouquets and Christmas presented the perfect opportunity to make some. I made some to give to my daughter's teachers at school. Some of the parents thought they were real flowers!

A Christmas Cake
I offered to sell some cupcakes at my daughter's school fair two weeks ago, and decided to create a 2 tier Christmas themed cake using dummy cakes to advertise my cake business. I'm thankful to Saralexia of Cake Central for allowing me to copy her cake design which was so adorable I had to try it! I did make some minor changes to the design and I had a lot of fun creating Santa, Rudolph and all the other characters. The children seemed to be quite impressed and some of them thought that the cake was for sale. Awww :)
All the cupcakes were sold, so I'm really happy to have contributed to the school funds. Roll on summer as I'd like to sell cupcakes again for the school (or perhaps cake pops?), except this time (hopefully) the weather will be lovely and hot.
Here is a picture of my cupcake table at the school fair.
The Santa Fell in the Snow cupcakes were the most popular cupcakes of the night! There are close up photos of all the cupcakes I made in the Gallery.
