The Handbag and Shoe Cake

The customer was very happy with their cake! I was asked to make a pink and girlie cake with a shoe and handbag cake topper. I think the overall effect is undoubtedly pink and girlie! The edible silver balls really finish the look. I loved making the ruffles for the handbag because the effect is pretty fantastic once you are done. To think the ruffles look so delicate when in fact they have hardened as they are made from gumpaste. The cake itself is chocolate with vanilla buttercream (colored pink as an added surprise).

Cupcake Bouquets (Again)

I've made some changes to my cupcake bouquets and this time used a real terracotta pot. Cupcakes can be quite heavy and I found the lovely tin vase I used previously needed to be weighed down and I was afraid of the bouquets toppling over during transport! I'm looking forward to making these in colours other than white, and making pink, purple, red and even two toned cupcake bouquets.

A Nautical Theme

As they say, sometimes less is more and that certainly is the case with the latest cake I made for the past weekend for a boy who turned 5. I made the design as simple as possible and used a limited colour palette and the recipient and his parents were very pleased with the resulting cake! The cakes are very small- 6" and 4" and made with a moist and delicious vanilla cake and velvety smooth vanilla buttercream. I have also been wanting to make paper buntings and I finally had a chance to decorate a cake with them. I think the overall effect is pretty good :)
